As seasoned forensic and litigation accountants and advisors, we not only decipher, dissect, and simplify complex financial information, but evaluate related business, industry, and market information to assess the financial impact of issues and disputes.

Litigation has become more and more complex in today’s world — with ever evolving compliance and regulatory requirements.  Whether you face an employment or contract dispute, a compliance matter, or an Intellectual Property (IP) issue, or much more, we can assist you and your counsel. GHP Horwath has developed a comprehensive services group that focuses specifically on Forensic & Litigation Consulting. We support both plaintiffs and defendants, and provide credible and dependable strategic consulting, analysis, testimony, and opinions.

We look beyond the numbers to get to the real story so we can assist you and your counsel with early case assessment, case strategy, discovery support, fact-finding, damages analyses, and valuations for disputes. We also provide the expertise that’s needed during a legal proceeding, whether before a judge, jury, arbitration panel, or mediator.

Conducting Forensic Accounting

More and more attorneys are recognizing the benefits of bringing in forensic accountants and litigation consultants to provide specialized accounting expertise as well as overall business experience and specialized expertise in areas such as intellectual property disputes, construction disputes, and other types of commercial litigation matters. With our forensic accounting and litigation consulting services, we help you get an accurate assessment of facts relating to a particular dispute and the financial impact of those facts. Using our accounting, auditing, and forensic investigative skills as well as our in-depth experience in specific litigation matters such as intellectual property, construction, employment, and marital disputes, we address all of the economic and financial issues relating to a dispute or anticipated litigation. This may involve civil litigation matters (intellectual property disputes, construction disputes, partner disputes, breach of contracts, employment disputes, etc.), marriage dissolutions, corporate fraud investigations, and estate/probate matters and due diligence investigations.

We also provide proactive forensic accounting services for companies and organizations to help evaluate their accounting records and results. Our goal, as always, is to simplify complex business and financial information so it can be easily and effectively communicated to a range of audiences, including judges and juries.

Supporting Litigation Proceedings

We typically work from the first stage of litigation, assisting in early case assessment and strategic discovery efforts to ensuring that the right documents and expert testimony are in place. We can provide consulting, valuation, and expert testimony services in a wide range commercial disputes, including providing expert damages analyses, expert reports, trial exhibits, and expert witness testimony.  Our team understands the litigation process and is skilled at providing a thorough, unbiased assessment of relevant damages issues. These professionals include Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), Certified Valuation Analysts (CVAs), Certified Forensic Financial Analysts (CFFAs), and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABVs) with strong backgrounds in business, accounting, finance, economics, and valuation. We have testified as experts in Federal District Courts, State Courts, and before arbitration panels.

Our forensic and litigation services provide support in legal disputes of all types such as:

  • Alter Ego
  • Bankruptcy and corporate recovery
  • Business interruption/destruction
  • Class action & claims administration
  • Commercial/contract disputes

“I worked with GHP Horwath on a complex legal issue in state court. It involved piercing the corporate veil to get through the corporation to its shareholders — a difficult standard to meet.
